The Week Magazine Subscription Saved My Time

As a small business owner and trader of stocks and options, I go to great lengths to get my daily news, and it's actually absolutely necessary for me to do. Unfortunately, it usually happens that I don't have enough time on my side. As such, I don't even get enough sleep, much less enough time to trawl through the newspapers or watch the news.

Don't you hate it when your source of the news are your friends, and sometimes days after the event has happened? I hate it when I have a dinner with my friends, and turn up not knowing what the dinner conversation is about. I had a dinner function where we celebrated the 9th birthday of my daughter, and the conversation turned onto a subject that I didn't know. I wasn't embarrassed, but the "You mean you hadn't heard of that?" comments sure became annoying.

The thing that trip me up the most is politics. Certain publications, even well-known and famous ones, have very biased political views and it's bad if you need the accurate facts. So far, only one publication that I've read has managed to keep an unbiased, neutral standpoint, and only report the facts as they are. It's The Week, and to attest to that, both my friend and I have completely different political views, and we love that magazine!

Besides reading only good publications, I do other things as well. One major thing that I read a lot of is time management techniques. The Pomodoro technique is something that I picked up recently. Named after the tomato (in Italian), it rewards you with breaks, but only if you spend some time doing nothing but your current task at hand.

There are other techniques that I have done, but the most effective thing that I did is to simplify my life. I got rid of all my magazine subscriptions and newspaper subscriptions, except The Week magazine. I like the accurate and factual reporting style that it has, and find that it helps me save time instead of helping me waste time. If you're anything like myself, I highly recommend that you try doing what I did as well!
